Aspiring mainstream country artist, Kelly Austin Curtis, was born and raised in Bryan/College Station, Texas.“When I was nine years old, I picked up my first instrument, — my Mom’s pots and pans that I beat to death with a set of chipped drum sticks. The louder the better.” Eventually, Kelly Austin taught himself to play drums, guitar and piano. At twelve, he started singing in a large church congregation, which ultimately started his career as a singer/ songwriter.
His songs are typically influenced by his family, faith, life, growing up in Texas and his musical heroes of the 1980′s and 90′s. Randy Travis, Garth Brooks, Brooks and Dunn and many others were strong influences on his music.
One of his latest songs, Shut Up and Dance, is about one of those bittersweet, toxic relationships you want to work so bad, and they just don’t. “I used to like a girl who didn’t feel the same way I did. She was running around on me. I was down in the dumps. No matter what I did, it was never good enough. But when we were on the dance floor, she’d take my hand, let me lead and I’d twirl her around and around. She was my baby as long as we danced.”
Kelly Austin is a prolific songwriter and nature lover. He recently said, “My favorite places to write songs are in the country, because in the country the songs write themselves.”
